US President Donald Trump has pledged to expedite investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure by companies committing to build big US projects, including Nvidia’s $500 billion commitment. The pledge comes as Big Tech’s investment pledges for US AI infrastructure have reached nearly $1.6 trillion since Trump’s inauguration.
Nvidia announced its plans to build AI infrastructure in the US during a Truth Social post, with Trump stating that necessary permits will be expedited and delivered quickly to all companies committing to the project. The company has been preparing to manufacture onshore due to the chaotic approach to trade policy, according to its CEO Jensen Huang.
Other tech giants, including Apple, TSMC, Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank, have also made big investments in US AI infrastructure. Apple committed to investing $500 billion over four years, while TSMC pledged $100 billion. A joint venture between these companies said it would spend $500 billion on US AI data centers.
Trump’s relationship with Apple CEO Tim Cook has been a focus of attention amid fluctuating tariff policies. The US Customs and Border Protection issued regulations exempting consumer electronics from reciprocal tariffs, including those on GPUs and servers. However, Trump also announced plans to impose tariffs on semiconductors and the entire electronics supply chain under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962.
The pledge by Big Tech companies comes as they navigate the potential hazards of Trump’s trade war while staying on the right side of a malleable administration. The investments are expected to have a significant impact on the stock market, making Nvidia and other affected companies’ stocks key players in the news.
