Trump Returns to Office: Immigration Detention Policy Expected to Persist

US immigration authorities are set to resume detaining families with children in centers under President-elect Donald Trump’s expected return to office next month. According to incoming White House “border czar” Tom Homan, this policy is likely to continue.

Trump has nominated loyalist Kash Patel to succeed FBI Director Christopher Wray, who will step down at the end of the Biden administration. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic, will lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Justice Department has also seen some changes with former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi replacing Matt Gaetz as Trump’s nominee for the role. Additionally, Trump plans to nominate Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the “Department of Government Efficiency,” a commission focused on reducing government spending and regulation.
