Trump Sues IRS, Treasury Over $10 Billion Tax Information Leak

President Donald Trump is suing the IRS and Treasury Department for $10 billion after his tax information was leaked to news outlets between 2018 and 2020. The leak, carried out by former IRS contractor Charles Edward Littlejohn, who worked for Booz Allen Hamilton, allegedly caused “reputational and financial harm” to Trump and his family.

Littlejohn had given data to The New York Times and ProPublica about Trump’s tax records, including the fact that he did not pay federal income tax for many years. The disclosures violated IRS Code 6103, a strict confidentiality law.

Trump’s suit claims that Littlejohn’s actions “unfairly tarnished” his business reputation and negatively affected his support among voters in the 2020 presidential election. The Treasury Department has since cut its contracts with Booz Allen Hamilton due to concerns over data protection.

The IRS and Treasury have not commented on the lawsuit, but Trump’s team is seeking $10 billion in damages for the alleged harm caused by the leak.
