President Donald Trump has expressed a desire for foreign students to study in the US, despite his ongoing feud with Harvard University. In a White House news conference on May 30, Trump stated that he wants “great students” at American institutions but wants to exclude those causing trouble.
The administration’s efforts to bar international students from Harvard were temporarily halted by a federal judge on May 23. The judge later extended the halt until further notice.
Trump and his team claim that Harvard has created an antisemitic environment following protests on campus over the Israel-Hamas conflict. In response, Trump ordered the university to provide information about international students enrolled at Harvard.
The administration has also frozen billions of dollars in federal research grants for Harvard since mid-April. Trump suggested that funding should prioritize trade schools instead, citing what he sees as waste at institutions like Harvard.
