US President Donald Trump has hailed the success of a two-week-long military operation against the Houthi terrorist group in Yemen, warning them to stop targeting US ships or face further action. The operation began earlier this month, following renewed threats from the Iran-backed group against Israeli vessels.
Trump said the Houthis have been “decimated” by relentless strikes, with many fighters and leaders killed or injured. The group’s capabilities to target shipping in the region are being rapidly destroyed, according to Trump.
The US is not targeting all ships in the Red Sea, however, as security experts have noted that Houthi attacks do not routinely target Chinese or Saudi Arabian vessels. Trump has issued a warning to Iran, stating that if attacks continue, Washington will come after Tehran next.
The US Central Command has not released an update on the operation, but Houthi representatives claim three people were killed in an overnight strike in Sanaa, the group’s capital since 2014.
