US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Apple, threatening a 25% tariff on its iPhone imports if the company does not agree to manufacture products in the US. In a statement posted to Truth Social, Trump said he had informed Apple’s CEO Tim Cook that iPhones sold in the US would be made in the US, not India.
If Apple fails to comply, it will have to pay the tariff, which would affect all cellphone companies importing into the US, including Samsung. Analysts say making iPhones in the US would make them prohibitively expensive for consumers, with prices potentially rising to $3500. The White House has declined to comment on the matter, while Apple has not returned a request for comment.
