Trump to Meet Putin in Alaska Next Week for Ukraine Peace Talks

President Donald Trump announced Friday that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in Alaska as part of efforts to forge a truce to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump tweeted on Friday that the two leaders will meet on August 15 in Alaska, where they will discuss ways to bring peace to the conflict-torn region. The meeting comes amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of supporting separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The White House has stated that Trump’s proposal for a truce requires significant territorial concessions from Ukraine, raising concerns among Western allies who are wary of Russian aggression.

The meeting is also seen as an opportunity for Trump to promote his peacemaking efforts and show support for Azerbaijan’s peace agreement with Armenia. On Thursday, the two leaders signed a deal aimed at normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia after decades of conflict.

However, questions remain about whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the meeting in Alaska. The White House has said that Putin would only meet with Zelensky if he agreed to do so.

In other news, Trump’s administration is pushing for a settlement agreement with UCLA, while the Justice Department has issued subpoenas to New York Attorney General Letitia James as part of an investigation into potential fraud by her office.
