Trump Travel Ban Delayed Indefinitely as Visa Revoke Efforts Continue

A US travel ban indefinitely postponed, with no new date set, amid a report that would serve as the basis for visa restrictions from countries deemed insufficient in vetting standards.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office requesting recommendations on visa restrictions by March 21. The State Department said it’s continuing to work on the report but couldn’t say when it would be ready.

The administration initially considered over 40 nations, including Iran, Russia, and Venezuela, for full or partially restricted travel. However, a new deadline was never announced after the original date passed without an update from the White House.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated that the original deadline is no longer in effect and that the department is working on restrictions based on security and vetting standards rather than a travel ban. No new date has been set for the report’s completion, despite daily reviews of visa revocation efforts.

US officials have revoked visas for individuals with suspected ties to terrorism or criminal activities, including a Turkish graduate student who allegedly supported Hamas and a Lebanese national whose phone content was deemed sympathetic to Hezbollah. Student visas are also being reviewed, but it’s unclear if they’re the only ones under scrutiny.
