Trump Urges US to Stay Out of Syrian Conflict

US President-elect Donald Trump has stated that the US military should not intervene in the ongoing conflict in Syria, where opposition forces have made significant gains and are threatening the government’s stronghold.

In a social media post, Trump declared, “THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT,” saying that the US should not get involved in the conflict. This stance is in line with comments made by President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, who stated that the US would not militarily intervene in the Syrian civil war.

Sullivan emphasized that the US will continue to act to prevent extremist groups like ISIS from exploiting the situation. The US has approximately 900 troops in Syria, including those working with Kurdish allies to combat the Islamic State group.

The opposition forces, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, have made rapid progress, capturing several major cities and advancing towards Damascus. The Syrian government, backed by Russia and Iran, is facing significant challenges.

Trump’s comments on the conflict come as Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad has been forced to leave the country, and opposition activists are watching closely for any indication from the incoming administration on how it will respond to the rebel advances.
