President Donald Trump has broken his silence on pardoning Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was acquitted of the most serious charges in a federal sex-crimes trial last month. During an interview with Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, Trump said Combs was “half-innocent” and that negative comments he made about Trump would make it harder to grant him a pardon.
Combs was found not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking by jurors on July 2, but convicted on two lesser charges. Despite this, his legal saga continues, with lawyers requesting an acquittal or new trial in court documents.
Trump’s comments come after conservative host Megyn Kelly urged him against potentially pardoning Combs, citing his past criticism of Trump as a “woman abuser” and the potential backlash from young female voters.
The president’s remarks suggest that Combs’ pardon is unlikely, at least for now.
