Trump’s Aid Freeze May Affect Medicaid and SSI Payments

The freeze on federal aid announced by Donald Trump has sparked concerns about its impact on various government programs, including Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). However, it appears that the freeze primarily affects Social Security payments.

In February, the distribution of resources for SSI remains as scheduled, with payments arriving in beneficiaries’ bank accounts as usual. This is because the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, but SSI benefits are paid on the first day of the month, except when it falls on a weekend.

For recipients born between January 1 and 10, payment will be made on February 14; for those born between January 11 and 20, payment will be made on February 21; and for those born between January 21 and 31, payment will be made on February 28.

To receive SSI payments, individuals must meet the program’s eligibility criteria, which is designed for low-income people with little or no work history who are unable to work due to a medical condition. The Social Security Administration (SSA) determines payments based on average lifetime earnings before becoming disabled, regardless of the severity of the disability.
