Some of President Donald Trump’s appointees have already distanced themselves from their pre-confirmation promises. The changes include the leadership of the FBI, vaccine schedules, and Russia sanctions.
FBI Director Kash Patel initially agreed to keep the deputy director in a special agent role but later cheered Trump’s decision to appoint Dan Bongino instead. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has vowed to investigate the childhood vaccination schedule, despite promising not to change it during his confirmation hearing. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has shifted his stance on Russia sanctions from “ramp up” to “take down,” citing a willingness to negotiate with Russia to end the war. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins initially welcomed a government efficiency initiative but later scrambled to rehire workers involved in the bird flu response, which was previously eliminated.
The changes come as Trump’s administration takes office and faces scrutiny over its decisions. The actions of these Cabinet members may impact their ability to fulfill their roles and maintain public trust.
