President-elect Donald Trump is personalizing his inauguration weekend celebrations with a range of eclectic musical acts, sparking controversy among some conservatives who see him as embracing their shared tastes in music.
The Village People, infamous for their 1978 hit “YMCA,” will perform at Trump’s “Victory Rally” on Sunday, as well as country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Kid Rock will also take the stage, having previously performed at the Republican National Convention last summer.
Country singer Jason Aldean, whose song “Try That in a Small Town” was an unofficial anthem for Trump’s campaign, will perform at the inaugural ball on Monday. Rascal Flatts is set to play at the same event.
The lineup marks a shift from Trump’s 2017 inauguration, when more high-profile performers like Carrie Underwood were booked. However, Underwood has since been scheduled to sing “America the Beautiful” at this year’s ceremony, signaling a thaw in entertainment industry hesitance towards Trump.
Trump plans to extend his celebration by inviting the entire Senate Republican conference to Mar-a-Lago for a mega-MAGA party in the coming weeks.
