Trump’s Justice Department Faced Widespread Criticism Over Partially Redacted Epstein Files Release

The US Department of Justice faced intense backlash after releasing a limited, heavily redacted trove of Jeffrey Epstein files just before the 19 December deadline mandated by the Epstein Transparency Act. Lawmakers from both parties condemned the department’s actions as an apparent violation of federal law and called for full disclosure of all investigative files involving the late financier. Critics pointed to the removal of at least 16 documents, including images of paintings depicting nude women, and questioned what was being hidden or redacted. The release sparked fears of a possible “biggest cover-up in American history”.
