Trump’s Plan: End of Rules-Based Order in Middle East?

US President Donald Trump’s plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza is a drastic shift from long-held US policy in the Middle East and marks the end of the rules-based order that emerged after World War II. The plan, which aims to create a Jewish homeland in the region, is based on a century-old idea first proposed by Britain and France.

The creation of Israel was achieved through massacres and ethnic cleansing, with at least 750,000 Palestinians displaced in 1948. Since then, the international community has recognized what happened to the Palestinians, but they have been denied their right of return. Trump’s plan is based on ignorance and arrogance, and Palestinians are not intimidated.

The Palestinian struggle for freedom and dignity has been ongoing since the 1940s, and it is not new. The Oslo Accords in 1993 were designed to end the Palestinian issue by transforming the Palestine Liberation Organisation into a security agency that would aid and prolong the Zionist occupation of Palestine.

Trump’s plan is likely to fail, as seen in previous attempts to resolve the conflict through force. Palestinians are aware of past humiliations at the hands of colonial powers and imperialist adventures. They will continue to resist Trump’s plan, which is not about Hamas but about their struggle for freedom and dignity.
