Trump’s Tariffs Take a Comedy Twist on SNL

“Saturday Night Live” cast member James Austin Johnson returned as Donald Trump during the latest episode’s cold open, delivering his version of the president’s recent “Liberation Day” tariff announcement. In the sequence, Johnson reprised Trump’s speech in the Rose Garden, joking that his tariffs plan would “make America Great Depression again.”

Johnson also referenced Trump’s comments about Haitian immigrants, saying “we’ll be the ones eating the cats and the dogs.” He even poked fun at an uninhabited island called McDonald Island, which Trump had expressed interest in visiting. The sketch also included a humorous exchange referencing country singer Morgan Wallen, who walked off stage during his appearance as musical guest last week.

Additionally, Mike Myers returned as Elon Musk, this time wearing a cheesehead hat and claiming to have just come from Wisconsin, where the real Musk was involved in the state’s Supreme Court election. The episode featured Jack Black hosting for the first time in 20 years, alongside Elton John and Brandi Carlile as musical guests.
