Trump’s Tariffs Threaten Chinese Game Boy Clones

US game console manufacturer Anbernic is suspending all shipments of its popular retro handheld consoles to the US due to a 245% tariff on Chinese goods. The company, which makes affordable and Nintendo-like clones, has been warning customers about potential tariffs since last week.

Anbernic had already suggested that US buyers choose its US warehouse for faster shipping, but now it’s suspending all shipments from China indefinitely. This decision comes after the removal of a de minimis exemption for cheap Chinese goods under Trump’s tariff policies.

The move threatens Anbernic’s low prices, which typically hover around $70 for new models. It’s unclear how the company will recover if tariffs take hold, but its products are still available on third-party platforms like Amazon.

Other companies may follow suit as Retro Handhelds tracks tariffs and has only recently listed Anbernic as a supplier with suspended shipments.
