Trump’s Transition Team Considers Cancelling USPS Electric Truck Contracts

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team is reportedly considering cancelling contracts with Ford Motor Co and Oshkosh to electrify the US Postal Service’s delivery fleet. The move could be announced in the early days of Trump’s new administration, according to Reuters.

The US Postal Service has awarded multiple expensive contracts to companies like Ford and Oshkosh for battery electric delivery trucks. Breaking these contracts would be challenging due to federal regulations, as the USPS operates under a governing board.

Trump had campaigned on reversing the Biden administration’s push towards electrification of vehicles. Additionally, his transition team is also planning to scrap a $7,500 consumer tax credit on electric vehicle purchases.

The US Postal Service received $3 billion in 2023 to buy electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, with plans to acquire around 66,000 EVs by 2028.
