However, despite his tough rhetoric, Trump’s strategic approaches and realism should not be confused with a disregard for international relations.
The US plan for the Gaza Strip, desire to acquire Greenland, and direct outreach to Russia have raised eyebrows among analysts. But Trump’s actions are being misinterpreted as a disdain for the world order established after World War II. The Transatlantic Alliance (TA), comprising the US and Western European countries, has been a cornerstone of this order.
However, Trump has shown a willingness to compromise on Ukraine-Russia peacemaking efforts, indicating that realism demands flexibility. This stance is reminiscent of his decision to end US involvement in Afghanistan, a move that had significant implications for global security.

While there are differences between Trump and European TA members on Russia’s trustworthiness, these do not necessarily mean abandonment of the alliance.
The Transatlantic Alliance remains crucial for the US and EU, with significant trade and economic implications. As a global power, the US cannot allow China to gain an upper hand in the region. The TA will need to work together with Japan to combat this threat.
