TSA Discovers 82 Fireworks and Prohibited Items in LAX Carry-On

A recent passenger’s attempt to board a flight at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) with a bag filled with prohibited items left security officials shocked. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) shared a photo of the contents, warning travelers about what not to bring to security checkpoints.

The incident occurred on December 15 when TSA officers flagged a piece of luggage for a bag check after an X-ray revealed multiple prohibited items. When the bag was opened with the passenger present, the officer was shocked at its contents.

The carry-on contained 82 consumer-grade fireworks, two replica firearms, three knives, and a canister of pepper spray. The woman traveling to Philadelphia had packed these items in her luggage without following TSA’s advice to unpack before packing.

TSA notified the Los Angeles World Airport police department, who confiscated the woman’s fireworks and interviewed her. The agency emphasized that this incident highlights the need for travelers to double-check their bag contents before arriving at the airport during busy security checkpoints like the holiday season.

The TSA also issued reminders about specific items prohibited in carry-on or checked luggage, including fireworks, knives, replica firearms, and certain types of pepper spray. Travelers are encouraged to contact their individual airline if they have questions about transporting these items.
