Turkey Slams Israel’s Beirut Strike Amid Growing Protests at Home

Israel has been accused by Turkey of violating a ceasefire agreement after conducting a strike in Beirut. The move sparked condemnation from France, Lebanon, and the United Nations.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry stated that Israel’s actions were a “violation of international law” and threatened regional security. Israel, however, claims it is acting to defend itself against real threats.

The country has also been hit by protests following the imprisonment of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s main rival, Ekrem Imamoglu. These demonstrations are the largest in Turkey since over a decade ago.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the strikes “unacceptable” while Lebanese President Joseph Aoun rejected any attack on Lebanon. The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon also expressed concern over the firing across the southern border.
