Turkey has urged Israel and Kurdish fighters to stop destabilizing Syria, warning that undermining neighboring countries’ security can lead to more crises. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made the comments during a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, accusing Israel of fueling difficulties in Syria and warning against destabilizing other nations.
The tensions come as Syria’s new government struggles to maintain stability after a nearly 14-year civil war. The country has seen clashes between government forces and local tribesmen, as well as violence between the Syrian government and US-backed Kurdish fighters. Turkey supports the new administration but views the Kurdish-led SDF with hostility due to its affiliation with the PKK.
Fidan also criticized the SDF for trying to turn instability into an opportunity for itself, saying it should not “play for time” and stop undermining Syria’s efforts to rebuild. The Turkish minister emphasized that Turkey will not tolerate mischievous or devious actions from other countries in the region.
