Charlie Kirk, founder of pro-Trump group Turning Point USA, was honored by over 1,500 students and supporters at the University of Minnesota. The event replaced a scheduled speech by Kirk, who was assassinated on September 10. Conservative author Michael Knowles led the gathering, praising Kirk’s character and calling him “a savior.” An empty chair with personal items from Kirk sat on stage to remember him. Knowles hinted that Kirk would have become president if he hadn’t been taken from life prematurely. The event began with a prayer and featured a rendition of Lee Greenwood’s patriotic song “God Bless the U.S.A.”
