Twin Cities Volleyball Coach Sentenced to 33 Years in Prison for Child Abuse

A Minnesota volleyball coach has been sentenced to 33 years in federal prison for sexually abusing multiple players over nearly a decade. Dorian Christopher Barrs, 33, of Minnetonka, was found guilty of producing child pornography and coercing underage girls into sending explicit videos and images.

Prosecutors said Barrs targeted 19 underage victims, 14 of whom he coached, including stints at Maple Grove High School and private lessons. He used social media to lure the girls into sexual conversations, then coerced them into producing child pornography.

Barr’s defense team argued for a sentence of 20 years, citing his personal history of being sexually abused as a mitigating factor. However, the judge emphasized that Barr had abused a position of trust and exploited his victims’ vulnerability.

As part of his plea deal, Barr will serve a lifetime sentence of supervised release after his prison time. The sentencing decision was described by US District Judge Nancy Brasel as “every parent’s nightmare.”
