Two Chinese Teens Fined $395,000 for Urinating in Hotpot

Two teenagers from Shanghai have been ordered to pay 2.2 million yuan (approximately $395,000) to a popular Chinese restaurant chain after they urinated into a hot pot at one of its outlets in February this year.

The court found the teens’ parents responsible for their actions and required them to apologize to the company publicly and issue compensation. The teens will also have to cover tableware losses ($130,000), reputation damages ($2 million), and legal fees ($70,000).

The incident became public when one of the teens posted a video on social media showing him urinating into a hot pot after dining at a private room. The restaurant apologized in a Weibo post, promised to sanitize the outlet, and offered full refunds to over 4,000 customers who visited during the time of the incident.
