Federal agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executed search warrants at two locations in Summit County on Tuesday, detaining two immigrant workers at Hacienda Real restaurant in Frisco. The agents were serving “targeted, federal, criminal” search warrants for immigration documents.
Hacienda Real owner Luis Flores stated that the business has been cooperating with authorities and providing requested documents. However, this cooperation led to a broader inspection of the restaurant.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said they did not provide support or assistance for the operation, nor did ICE request help. Deputies responded to a call for service to ensure community safety by controlling crowds and traffic.
Multiple businesses closed during the operations, and schools enacted policies to prioritize student safety. Immigration-focused nonprofits advised the community to limit interaction with federal agents, and Attorney Karen McCarthy emphasized the importance of knowing one’s constitutional rights when interacting with law enforcement.
The detention has raised concerns among immigrant communities in Summit County, who are being told to remain calm and peaceful during such incidents. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office clarified that their policies do not include confirming or commenting on potential operations.
