Two Meteor Showers to Witness in April

Astronomers predict two spectacular meteor showers will occur simultaneously in April. The Lyrids and Eta Aquarids showers will streak through the sky at the same time from April 20 to 26, offering viewers in the Northern Hemisphere a rare astronomical event.

The Lyrids, originating from Comet Thatcher, peak during late April with around 18 meteors per hour, visible near the star Vega after moonset and before predawn. In contrast, the Eta Aquarids, coming from Comet Halley, typically peak in early May but will be active from April 20 to May 21.

Additional celestial events include the “Messier Marathon” challenge, where observers attempt to view 110 Messier objects, and notable alignments of the Moon with Jupiter on Thursday and Mars on Saturday. The Northern Hemisphere’s clear skies will allow viewers to witness these events using either a telescope or the naked eye.
