Tyler Herro, a 25-year-old guard for the Miami Heat, won the 2025 Starry 3-Point Contest, becoming the fifth player in team history to claim the title. This victory prevented Damian Lillard from achieving a historic three-peat.
Herro’s performance impressed fans, while others were surprised that Lillard couldn’t secure the win. In the first round, only two players scored over 20 points, with Hield tying Curry’s previous record of 31 points in that round.
Lillard had high expectations heading into the event, stating, “I think I’m one of the best at it. It was that way when I stepped foot into the league.” However, he ultimately fell short in Round 1.
In the second round, Herro’s score improved by five points, putting pressure on other competitors like Garland and Hield to respond. Garland struggled as time expired, allowing Hield to narrowly miss overtaking Herro for the win.
The 74th NBA All-Star Game is set to take place on Sunday, with the contest preceding the main event.
