Tyler Perry Studios CEO Steve Mensch Dies in Plane Crash

Steve Mensch, 62, the president of Tyler Perry Studios, was killed when a small plane he was flying crashed north of Tampa, Florida. The studio announced his death, calling him a “kind soul and a great leader” and saying they are “incredibly saddened by his passing”.

Mensch’s plane, a single-engine Vans RV-12IS, went down in Homosassa, about 60 miles from Tampa. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.

A key advocate for Georgia’s film tax credit, Mensch helped attract numerous productions to the state and made Atlanta an emerging rival to major production hubs like Los Angeles and Vancouver. Perry hired him to run the studio in 2016, just days before its latest film debuted in select theaters.

Mensch is survived by his wife and three children. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
