Steve Mensch, the president and general manager of studio operations at Tyler Perry Studios, has died in a plane crash on Friday night. The news was announced by the studio on Saturday, describing Mensch as a “cherished member” and expressing their sadness over his passing.
Mensch managed the day-to-day operations at Tyler Perry Studios, a 300-acre studio lot in Atlanta, for more than eight years. He was well-liked in the community and played a key role in establishing Atlanta as a premier destination for global film and television production.
Tyler Perry, the founder of the studio, remembered Mensch as “a kind soul and a great leader” who loved flying and taking care of his plane. The actor expressed his devastation over Mensch’s death and offered prayers to his family.
The Georgia film community is also mourning the loss of Mensch, who was known for his generosity and sense of humor. Director Lee Thomas called him “a great friend” who made a lasting impact on the state’s film industry.
