The president of Tyler Perry Studios, Steven Mensch, has died in a single-passenger plane crash in Florida, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office. Mensch, 62, was both the pilot and sole passenger of the plane that crashed on Highway 19 near Homosassa, Fla., around 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Mensch had been at the helm of Tyler Perry Studios since 2016, overseeing film production and operations. Before joining the studio, he held leadership roles at Third Rail Studios and Turner Broadcasting System.
Perry was recently honored by the Paley Center for his contributions to the entertainment industry, with a new film “The Six Triple Eight” premiering in select theaters on Friday. The Tyler Perry Studios released a statement saying Mensch was “a cherished member of our team” who will be deeply missed by the community.
Mensch is survived by his wife and three children.
