Typhoon Kajiki Brings Deadly Floods to Vietnam and Thailand

Typhoon Kajiki has killed eight people, mainly in Vietnam, after making landfall on Monday. Heavy rains have triggered widespread flooding and landslides in both countries. In Vietnam, the storm damaged over 10,000 homes and offices, while in Thailand, floods affected more than 180 households.

In Vietnam, Kajiki also knocked down electricity poles, causing blackouts that hit 1.6 million people. The Vietnamese government warned of more flash floods and mudslides to come, as the national weather forecast agency predicted heavy rain would continue in northern provinces on Wednesday.

Before reaching Vietnam, Typhoon Kajiki skirted the southern coast of China’s Hainan island, forcing the resort city of Sanya to close businesses and public transport. The storm has disrupted the country’s preparations for its largest National Day parade in decades next week.
