Uber is set to bring self-driving cars to the streets of London as part of a pilot program, marking its entry into one of Europe’s most complex driving environments. The ride-hailing giant has partnered with privately held Wayve for the trial.
London and other UK cities pose a unique challenge due to their diverse road layouts and traffic laws. In contrast, much of Uber’s Level 4 testing in the US has focused on locations where regulations are more straightforward.
The move is seen as a significant step forward for autonomous vehicles, which have faced regulatory hurdles in many countries. With this pilot program, Uber aims to demonstrate its self-driving technology in one of the world’s most populated and congested cities.
