Ubisoft CEO Confronted on “Woke” Content and Aging Workforce at Shareholder Meeting

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot faced tough questions from shareholders and gamers about the company’s content, including a popular petition to make games playable again. At the company’s annual shareholder meeting in Paris, Guillemot was asked if Ubisoft’s “woke” content, such as the Black samurai in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, was too much. He replied that the game aimed to showcase characters with heroic journeys.

Guillemot also addressed a petition called Stop Killing Games, which aims to make online games playable again for those who are unable due to age or disability. While the petition has garnered significant attention, Guillemot said Ubisoft is “working on” addressing the issue.

Other questions at the meeting included lessons learned from Star Wars Outlaws’ poor sales and concerns about Ubisoft’s strategy. The company’s aging workforce was also discussed, with shareholders asking if Ubisoft plans to make more AA-scale games to offset the costs of larger productions.

Guillemot acknowledged that Ubisoft has faced challenges in recent years, including a 40% drop in share price over 10 years. However, he did not comment on rival game publisher Riot’s multiplayer game Valorant.

The meeting provided valuable insights into Ubisoft’s strategy and future plans, which may help the company address its current challenges and concerns from investors and gamers alike.
