UConn Beats DePaul Behind Ball’s Career-Best Shooting Night

UConn men’s basketball pulled off an 81-68 victory over DePaul on Wednesday night, thanks in part to sophomore guard Solo Ball’s career-best performance. Ball hit seven three-pointers, including five over the final three minutes of the first half and four more in the second half, to finish with a game-high 22 points. He also added six rebounds, both career bests.

The Huskies led 53-26 when star freshman Liam McNeeley left the game with an ankle injury early in the second half, but Ball’s shooting and several crucial blocks from Jayden Ross helped UConn close out the win. Alex Karaban added 18 points and Samson Johnson 10 for the 11th-ranked Huskies.

UConn dominated the first half as DePaul misfired on 13 of its first 16 shots, before Ball’s shooting burst in the final minutes of the half. The Huskies shot a blistering 14-for-29 from three-point range, limiting DePaul to just three makes on 12 attempts.

The win gives UConn another crucial Big East road victory, and it comes as the team prepares for word on McNeeley’s ankle injury. “It’s always a next man mentality,” Karaban said.
