UFC President Dana White announced the main events for UFC 311 in Los Angeles on Wednesday night, both bouts featuring championship fights. Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev will face Arman Tsarukyan again after his undefeated nine-fight win streak was halted only once – by Tsarukyan in April 2019.
Tsarukyan has gone 9-1 since that loss and earned two Performance of the Night bonuses for his victories over Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira. Makhachev, on the other hand, has won the lightweight title and maintained an undefeated record with a strong wrestling background.
The rematch between Tsarukyan and Makhachev is expected to be an epic showdown. Additionally, bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili will face Umar Nurmagomedov for his title in a highly anticipated rivalry that has been building up since September when Dvalishvili dethroned Sean O’Malley.
Nurmagomedov boasts an undefeated record of 18-0, including seven submission victories. The event is set to take place on January 18, 2025, at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, marking the venue’s first UFC event and WWE’s Monday Night Raw will emanate from the same venue on January 6.
Other notable matchups include Jailton Almeida vs. Serghei Spivac, Jiří Procházka vs. Jamahal Hill, Kevin Holland vs. Reinier de Ridder, Rinya Nakamura vs. Muin Gafurov, and several more fights that will be revealed as the card is finalized.
