UFC fighter Colby Covington expressed frustration over the stoppage of his fight against Joaquin Buckley in the third round due to excessive bleeding from a cut above his right eye. Covington claimed he was just getting warmed up and felt he had gained an advantage, but the doctor intervened.
However, UFC legend Chael Sonnen, who was in Covington’s corner, revealed that he nearly threw in the towel to end the contest before the doctor stepped in. According to Sonnen, Covington suffered a severe cut that required multiple medical interventions.
Despite being asked about the incident, UFC president Dana White acknowledged that if it had occurred in Vegas, the fight would not have been stopped. Covington downplayed his opponent’s toughest shots, saying they did not faze him.
Buckley improved his MMA record to 21-6 with the win, while Covington’s first fight in a year ended in controversy.
