Austin Vanderford has called for UFC release of rival Nikolay Veretennikov following a post-fight scrap at UFC Seattle. The former Bellator title contender, who was cornered by his wife Paige VanZant during the fight, stopped Veretennikov in the second round of their clash under the UFC banner. However, after the bout, Veretennikov pushed Vanderford, leading to a brief altercation that saw the pair separated by security.
Vanderford has expressed sympathy for Veretennikov, but believes he should be released from the organization due to his behavior. In a post-fight press conference, Vanderford stated, “For me, I know the sacrifices in what we do to go out there and perform… So I feel for the guy, but you go out there and get dominated and then throw a fit like that? Yeah, you probably don’t deserve to be here.”
UFC president Dana White has downplayed the incident, stating that Veretennikov’s behavior was not a major issue. White compared the incident to Paul Daley’s infamous post-fight brawl at UFC 113, in which he was banned from the promotion for life. However, White acknowledges that Veretennikov’s actions were unacceptable and may have consequences for his future in the organization.
Veretennikov has been on a 0-2 record since joining the UFC, and his post-fight behavior has raised questions about his suitability to remain with the promotion. With Vanderford’s comments sparking debate about Veretennikov’s fate, it remains to be seen whether he will face disciplinary action or be released from the organization.
