British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have welcomed US President Donald Trump’s leadership in working towards a durable peace in Ukraine. They spoke over the phone earlier on Tuesday, with both leaders reaffirming that Ukraine must be at the heart of any peace negotiations.
Macron met Trump on Monday, while Starmer will travel to Washington this week. Both leaders emphasized their support for a “solid and lasting peace” in Ukraine. Macron also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy by telephone, thanking him for his nightly video address.
Europe is ready to play its part in achieving a peaceful resolution, according to both leaders. Their comments come as Trump continues to work towards finding a solution to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
