UK and Ireland Face Satellite Blackspots Due to France Protocols

Satellite internet company Starlink has warned that millions in the UK and Ireland may face blackspots due to new rules intended to protect France’s mobile networks. The US-based company, which aims to provide blanket coverage with its “direct to device” services, claims the proposed limits would prevent it from serving areas of greatest need.

Existing international agreements allow for some interference, but the proposed limits are stricter, Starlink argues. This means consumers in Northern Ireland and south-east England may miss out on new services, despite these areas having lower rates of terrestrial coverage. The company is urging regulator Ofcom to reconsider its plans to limit emissions near borders.
