UK Foreign Secretary Criticises Israel for Detaining Labour MPs

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has criticised Israeli authorities for detaining and deporting two Labour MPs, Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed, over suspected plans to document security forces’ activities and spread anti-Israeli messages. The MPs were on a parliamentary delegation to visit humanitarian aid projects in the West Bank with UK charity partners.

Lammy stated that detaining British parliamentarians is “unacceptable, counterproductive, and deeply concerning”. He has made clear his opposition to Israel’s actions and offered support to the detained MPs. This move comes amid resumption of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, resulting in significant civilian casualties.

The Israeli authorities’ decision has sparked international condemnation, with critics labelling it as an “insult” to Britain and parliament. The UK government’s focus remains on securing a ceasefire and negotiations to end the conflict in Gaza.
