Ukraine Conflict Escalates as Zelensky Calls on West to Increase Pressure on Russia

The conflict in Ukraine has escalated with a deadly Russian missile strike on Kyiv, leaving one person dead and three injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the West to step up pressure on Russia, stating that “pressure on Russia is still insufficient” and that daily Russian strikes prove its intentions are not peaceful.

The attack on Kyiv is not an isolated incident, with other regions such as Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Cherkasy also experiencing strikes. Zelensky warned that the number of air attacks is increasing, revealing Russia’s true intentions to continue terrorizing Ukraine.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has said that the world will know in a matter of weeks if Russia is serious about peace or not. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has imposed steep tariffs on imports from almost all countries, with some rates reaching 50%.

European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen expressed concern that Russia is “stalling” peace talks with Ukraine. Defence Secretary John Healey will convene a meeting of the “coalition of willing” nations to support Ukraine, while Zelensky has paid tribute to the children who died in the attack on Kryvyi Rih.

The conflict continues to escalate, with Russia claiming control of the village of Basivka in Sumy region. The West remains committed to supporting Ukraine, but the situation remains fragile and uncertain.
