Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has confirmed that his country’s troops have been actively operating in Russia’s Belgorod region for the first time. This development comes as Ukrainian forces continue to fight in parts of Russia’s Kursk region.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported on the situation at the front, including the presence in Kursk and Belgorod regions. The president stated that Ukraine is carrying out active operations in border areas, aiming to protect its land and communities.
The Ukrainian troops’ presence in Belgorod is seen as a response to Russia’s recapture of areas in Kursk, which has eased pressure on other parts of the front, particularly in the Donetsk region. The operation also aims to destroy Russian equipment and logistics used by occupiers.
Meanwhile, fighting continues in eastern Ukraine, with Russian forces mounting attacks on villages around Pokrovsk, an important logistics hub. Ukrainian resistance has slowed Russian advances in the area.
The US remains uncertain about its military support for Ukraine amid ongoing fighting and efforts to broker a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
