Ukraine claimed responsibility for a drone attack on a fuel and energy facility in Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast on March 17. Regional Governor Igor Babushkin stated that the attack, which occurred overnight, targeted multiple facilities, including a fuel and energy complex.
Russian forces reportedly destroyed 13 drones in the oblast. However, Babushkin alleged that debris from the fallen drones caused a fire at the facility, leading to one person’s hospitalization. The authenticity of these claims could not be independently verified by The Kyiv Independent.
Astrakhan Oblast, located in southwestern Russia, is approximately 800 kilometers away from Ukraine’s front line. This attack follows other Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian energy and military targets, including the Tuapse oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, which was targeted overnight on March 14.
Ukraine has intensified its efforts to disrupt Russia’s war effort by targeting refineries, oil depots, and defense industry sites.
