Ukraine Releases 390 Prisoners in ‘1000-for-1000’ Exchange Deal with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners were released Friday in an exchange with Russia, marking the first stage of a prisoner swap agreement. According to Zelenskyy, the deal was reached during a meeting in Turkey and will be implemented in full.

The release of 390 people took place at the border between Belarus and Ukraine, according to a senior Ukrainian official. The swap is part of the ‘1000-for-1000’ exchange agreement, which aims to bring all remaining Ukrainians back home.

Zelenskyy thanked everyone who has helped facilitate the release, emphasizing that verifying every detail about each person is crucial. The Ukrainian president also stated that diplomatic efforts will continue to make such agreements possible.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone call with Trump on Monday, and later said that “a ceasefire with Ukraine is possible.” However, both sides have agreed to negotiate further conditions for the ceasefire.
