Ukraine has escalated its attacks on Russian drone factories, targeting a facility in Obukhovo, just outside Moscow, with long-range drones. The attack, which occurred on or before March 13, was the latest in a series of strikes aimed at disrupting Russia’s drone production.
This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted Russian drone factories. In April, Ukrainian drones struck a factory in Yelabuga, 550 miles east of Moscow. The 2024 raid represents one of the deepest in Ukraine’s campaign to hit Russian targets.
Ukraine’s advantage in drone warfare is its most significant asset, as Russia’s war on Ukraine enters its 37th month. Ukrainian drones are abundant in the skies over key sectors, giving them a significant edge over Russian forces.
Russia is struggling to jam Ukrainian drones and is trying to match their capabilities. The Kremlin has announced plans to acquire 4 million first-person-view drones this year, while Ukraine aims for 4.5 million.
By destroying drone factories, Ukraine hopes to reduce Russian production and ensure that most of the drones operating over the front line are its own. This strategic move highlights the growing importance of drone warfare in modern conflicts.
