Ukraine has launched a series of strikes against Russian military facilities and infrastructure, including a major oil refinery in Ryazan and a military airfield used for launching long-range drones. The attacks, which were carried out by Ukrainian unmanned systems forces, have sparked fires at the affected locations.
The strikes also hit an electronics factory in Penza that supplies Moscow’s military-industrial complex with electronics. Ukraine has been using drones to hamper Russia’s military efforts, and this latest attack is believed to be part of this strategy.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant after Ukrainian shelling, but was brought under control by Russian authorities. The incident has sparked concerns about nuclear safety, with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) calling for “maximum military restraint” in the area.
In another development, Ukraine’s anti-corruption bodies have uncovered a major graft scheme involving the procurement of military drones and signal jamming systems at inflated prices. Several people have been arrested in connection with the scandal.
The US and India have also faced criticism over their handling of Russia-Ukraine relations. The US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose penalties on India for purchasing oil from Russia, despite Indian government sources indicating that there are no plans to stop buying Russian oil.
In a separate move, Ukraine and Russia have agreed to exchange approximately 1,200 prisoners, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The exchange is expected to include civilians as well as soldiers, and preparations are underway for another meeting with Russian officials without further details.
