Ukraine Targets Russian Strategic Bomber Airfield with Drone Attack

Ukraine has struck a major Russian strategic bomber airfield, triggering a huge blast and fire in the Engels region. The attack, which used drones, was confirmed by Kyiv’s defence ministry and verified by Reuters videos.

The Engels airfield, located about 700 km from the front lines of the war, is home to Russia’s Tupolev Tu-160 nuclear-capable heavy strategic bombers. Ten people were injured in the attack, according to local officials.

Eyewitnesses described a massive explosion and fire at the airfield, which has led to the evacuation of nearby residents. The Russian defence ministry claimed that 132 Ukrainian drones had been shot down over Russian regions.

This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted the Engels airbase, with previous attacks in December 2022 and January, causing significant damage and fires.
