Ukraine Targets Russian Strategic Bomber Base with Massive Drone Attack

A Ukrainian drone attack targeted Russia’s Engels airbase in Saratov region overnight, with the Defense Ministry claiming to have downed 54 drones over the area. The governor of Saratov reported a fire burning at the airfield and damage to around 30 houses.

The Ukrainian military claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was a collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine and Special Operations Forces. They said the facility used by Russian strategic bombers has been used to launch missile strikes on Ukraine and terrorist attacks against civilians.

Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have downed 132 Ukrainian drones over seven regions. Ukrainian authorities reported a major Russian overnight bombardment of cities, including Kropyvnytskyi and Kupyansk, with multiple explosions and casualties.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, saying it shows Russia’s true attitude to peace. The situation remains volatile as negotiations for a broader ceasefire continue.
