Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has warned that his country expects a strong response from Western nations in response to nearly daily Russian drone attacks on its territory. The comments came as officials reported another mass drone attack in the southeastern city of Dnipro, killing four people and injuring up to 14.
Zelenskiy stated that Russia’s drone strikes target not only Ukrainian civilians but also international efforts to end the war. He urged his partners to understand that these attacks are aimed at undermining diplomatic efforts, adding that he expects a serious response from countries like the US, Europe, and others who rely on diplomacy.
The US has brokered two ceasefires over the past week, one for shipping through the Black Sea and another to stop attacks on energy targets. However, Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating these accords. Zelenskiy discussed the situation with his top military commander and assured that Ukrainian forces are maintaining active measures to prevent Russian advances in certain regions.
The conflict began when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and Ukrainian troops still maintain a presence in western Russia’s Kursk region seven months after a cross-border incursion. Zelenskiy mentioned that his forces had taken “certain steps” outside the Kursk region to ease pressure on Ukrainian troops in the area.
